Give the full address, any gate code, and where the meter box or house shutoff is. Clear a path to the affected fixture if you can do it without walking through standing water.

Before the Plumber Arrives
The most useful thing you can do is stop the water. In most San Antonio homes the main shutoff is in the meter box at the curb: lift the lid, find the valve beside the meter and turn it a quarter turn so the handle sits across the pipe. Many houses also have a second valve where the supply enters near an outside faucet. Once the water is off, open the lowest faucet in the house to let the pressure out of the lines.
After that, a few safety points. Stay out of standing water that has reached outlets, appliances, a water heater or a breaker panel. Do not flush or run water anywhere in the house if waste is coming up at a low fixture. If you can smell gas near a water heater, leave the building and call the gas utility from outside. And if a ceiling is bulging with water, keep out from under it rather than trying to drain it.
